Flexible deployment at Kirkton Road, Arbroath will recommence within the 30mph speed limit on 1st October.
Following concerns from residents and at the request of Angus Council the North Safety Camera Unit initially carried out mobile enforcement from July – September 2025, this was followed by a speed survey which produced disappointing results. Over 51% of vehicles were travelling in excess of the 30mph speed limit and the 85%ile speed had increased. A second period of enforcement took place between December 2025 and February 2026 with a subsequent speed survey again showing high levels of non-compliance to the 30mph speed limit in place.
Eric Dunion, Manager of Police Scotland’s North Safety Camera Unit, said: "The flexible deployment scheme allows us to enforce at locations of concern for an initial three months, with the aim of improving driver behaviour by encouraging motorists to slow down and drive within the speed limit in areas where there are other road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. Unfortunately, our previous deployments on the Kirkton Road have not had this effect. With further speed survey results highlighting high levels of motorists continuing to travel in excess of the speed limit and the 85%ile at 38mph we feel it is appropriate to attend for a further period of time. “
Councillor Jack Cruickshanks, Angus Council said "We all know the temptation — an open stretch of road, running late, and it feels harmless to go a little faster. But every extra mile per hour increases the risk of serious harm, and that’s a risk none of us should take. Slowing down isn’t just about obeying a sign; it’s about protecting lives — our neighbours, our families, and ourselves. Let’s all do our bit to keep Kirkton safe."
